Stráavy

Stráavy is a coastal town and port in the northern region of Valora, a fictional country located on the Strávic coast. The name Stráavy is said to derive from the Strávic language, with the acute accent indicating a long vowel; the precise etymology is uncertain. The town serves as the administrative center of Strán District and is noted for its harbor and historic fortifications.

Geographically, Stráavy sits on a rocky headland facing the Strávic Sea, with sheltered bays nearby. The surrounding terrain is hilly, featuring terraced gardens and small agricultural plots. The maritime climate produces mild, wet winters and cool summers. The harbor accommodates fishing boats, ferries, and regional trade vessels.

Historically, Stráavy is first mentioned in mid-12th-century records as a fishing settlement. It grew through the early modern period as a regional trading hub, aided by a 19th-century rail link that connected it to inland markets. The town experienced occupation during mid-20th-century conflicts and later underwent reconstruction and modernization, preserving much of its stone quay and fortifications.

The local economy centers on commercial fishing, seafood processing, small-scale ship repair and construction, and tourism. The harbor supports seasonal ferries to nearby islands and hosts a weekly market that attracts traders from across Valora. The population is about 11,000, with Strávic as the majority language and several coastal crafts maintained by minority communities.
