Stroudwater

Stroudwater is a district within the town of Stroud in Gloucestershire, England. It is situated to the west of the town centre and is known for its historical association with the textile industry that once dominated the Stroud valley. The area is bisected by the River Frome and includes the Stroudwater Canal, which played a significant role in the region's industrial past, facilitating the transport of goods and raw materials.

The development of Stroudwater is closely linked to the water power provided by the River Frome and the construction of the Stroudwater Canal in the late 18th century. Numerous mills were established along the river and canal, processing wool and other textiles.
