Stromingskanalen

Stromingskanalen, literally the flow channel, is a term used in fluid dynamics and related disciplines to denote a channel through which a fluid moves under the influence of external forces such as gravity, pressure gradients, or wind-driven currents. The concept covers both natural waterways and engineered conduits, and it is applicable across scales from microfluidics to large river systems.

In natural settings, stromingskanalen include rivers and streams, tidal and estuarine channels, and submarine channels formed by turbidity or bottom currents. These channels are shaped by erosion, sediment transport, and deposition, and their geometry (width, depth, slope) adjusts to changing flow conditions.
