Strickbereich

Strickbereich is a German term used in textile technology and knitting machinery to denote the working zone where knitting stitches are formed. Etymologically, Strick means knitting and Bereich means area or region, and the term appears in industrial documentation, training materials, and machine manuals to describe the region of a knitting machine where yarn is fed, loops are formed, and stitches are transferred.

In flat knitting machines, the Strickbereich roughly corresponds to the width of the fabric under production, including the needle bed, latch needles, and sinkers within which the loop formation and immediate processing occur. In circular knitting machines, it can refer to the circumferential segment of the cylinder and associated elements that participate in knitting. The size and characteristics of the Strickbereich are governed by machine gauge, needle arrangement, dial or cylinder configuration, yarn properties, and tension settings.

It is a practical concept used to optimize fabric quality, gauge control, edge formation, and defect prevention; adjustments to the Strickbereich can influence stitch consistency, fabric elasticity, and take-up behavior. The term is not uniformly standardized in textile nomenclature, and some sources prefer the more generic terms knitting zone or stitch zone.
