Strekkgrense

Strekkgrense, also known as yield strength, is a fundamental material property that describes the point at which a solid material begins to deform permanently. Up to this point, a material subjected to tensile stress will return to its original shape after the stress is removed; this is known as elastic deformation. Once the stress exceeds the strekkgrense, the material enters the plastic deformation regime, meaning it will not fully recover its original form.

The strekkgrense is typically measured in units of force per area, such as Pascals (Pa) or pounds per square inch (psi). It is a critical parameter in engineering design, as it dictates the maximum load a component can withstand before undergoing permanent deformation. Exceeding the strekkgrense can compromise the structural integrity and functionality of a component.

Determining the strekkgrense usually involves a tensile test, where a standardized sample of the material is pulled apart at a controlled rate. A stress-strain curve is generated, plotting the applied stress against the resulting strain. The point where the curve deviates from linearity, indicating the onset of plastic deformation, is defined as the strekkgrense. Different materials have vastly different strekkgrenser, ranging from soft polymers to high-strength alloys.
