Storys is commonly used as a misspelling of stories and is not recognized as a separate term in standard English. The standard plural is stories in Modern English; storey (British English) means a floor of a building.

Stories typically include elements such as plot, characters, setting, and point of view, plus a central theme. They employ narrative devices to create tension or meaning and can be structured in diverse ways. Common forms include the short story, the novella, and the novel, as well as oral tales, legends, and myths. Stories appear across media, including literature, film, theater, comics, podcasts, video games, and digital storytelling.

Historically, storytelling began in oral traditions and evolved with writing, printing, and mass media. In the modern era, storytelling adapts to new formats such as interactive fiction, transmedia storytelling, and social media narratives, expanding audience participation. The purpose of a story can be to entertain, convey information, explore ideas, preserve culture, or persuade. Universal features include character-driven or plot-driven narratives, conflict, turning points, and resolution, though styles vary widely by culture and era.
