Storch

Storch is a genus of large wading birds belonging to the family Ciconiidae, commonly known as storks. The genus currently contains only one living species, the White Stork (Ciconia ciconia), although some classifications may include closely related species. Storches are characterized by their long legs, long necks, and large, pointed beaks. Their plumage is typically white with black on the wings and tail. They are found in Europe, Asia, and Africa, inhabiting wetlands, grasslands, and open woodlands.

Storches are migratory birds, undertaking long journeys between their breeding grounds and wintering areas. They are well-known for their elaborate courtship rituals, which often involve bill-clattering. These birds build large stick nests, usually in trees or on artificial structures like chimneys and rooftops. They are carnivores, feeding on a diet of frogs, insects, fish, and small mammals. Their presence is often associated with good luck in many cultures. Historically, the genus may have encompassed a broader range of species before taxonomic revisions.
