Stepparent

A stepparent is a person who is married to one of a child’s biological or legal guardians, or who becomes a parent to a child through remarriage. Legal and social considerations vary by jurisdiction. Step-parents do not automatically acquire legal parental rights or financial responsibilities in many places, though adoption or guardianship can formalize such roles. Overall, a stepparent’s impact is shaped by relationship quality, communication, and the legal framework surrounding the family.
