Stensiiliin

Stensiiliin is the illative singular form of the Finnish noun stensiili, meaning "into the stencil" or "to the stencil." In Finnish, the illative case expresses direction toward or into a destination, and stensiiliin appears in sentences describing actions directed at or into a stencil.

A stencil is a template with cut-out patterns used to apply paint, ink, or other media to a surface while keeping adjacent areas protected. Stensiilit are typically made from durable materials such as plastic, metal, or cardboard and come in various sizes and designs. The stencil is placed on the target surface, and color is applied through the cutouts by spraying, dabbing, rolling, or brushing. After the paint dries, the stencil can be removed, leaving the design on the surface.

Stencils have a long history in art and decoration and are used in signage, textiles, and mural painting. In contemporary practice, stencil-based techniques are common in street art, screen printing, and crafts, enabling the repeated reproduction of a motif with consistency.
