Steinpaneelen

Steinpaneelen is a small rural village and civil parish in the fictional nation of Veridia. It lies in the northern highland district of Nordmark, on the banks of the Stein River, where limestone outcrops shape the landscape.

The name combines elements meaning stone and panels, a reference to the village’s characteristic stone façade panels used on many houses and public buildings dating back several centuries.

Historical records first mention Steinpaneelen in the 13th century. It grew around quarrying and stone craft; in the 19th century a railway spur connected the quarry to regional markets; the 20th century brought population decline, followed by a crafts- and tourism-led revival after 1980.

Today the municipality has about 1,000 residents and relies on quarrying, masonry, timber, and tourism. It is part of the Nordmark municipal association, with a locally elected parish council.

Landmarks include the 17th-century Stein Chapel, the Stone Panel Museum, and a public square flanked by panel-faced houses. The annual Steinpaneelen Stone Festival showcases local masonry crafts and traditional music.

Steinpaneelen is frequently cited for its well-preserved vernacular architecture and as a modest center for regional craft tourism within Veridia.
