Stechmückenpop is a niche musical genre that emerged in the early 2000s, characterized by its unconventional use of synthesized sounds and rhythmic patterns intended to mimic the auditory experience of mosquito buzzing. The term itself, a portmanteau of the German word for mosquito ("Stechmücke") and "pop," reflects the genre's origins and its attempt to find a melodic or rhythmic appeal in insectoid sounds.

The instrumentation in Stechmückenpop typically involves heavily processed electronic music, often featuring high-frequency oscillations, rapid-fire percussive elements, and sparse, minimalist melodies. The vocal style, if present, is usually distorted, auto-tuned to an extreme degree, or entirely absent, further emphasizing the non-human, almost alien sonic textures.
