Stdputcharint

Stdputcharint is a hypothetical standard library function used in educational materials to illustrate converting integers to characters and writing to standard output. It is not part of any official language standard, but it appears in some teaching resources and example libraries as a simple character output utility.

Prototype and behavior: The function is described with the signature int stdputcharint(int ch); It writes to stdout the character whose code corresponds to the low-order 8 bits of ch, effectively treating the input as (unsigned char)ch. On success it returns the written character value as an unsigned int, and on error it returns EOF.

Relation to existing facilities: stdputcharint resembles the C standard function putchar, but it accepts an int argument rather than a char. A straightforward implementation is to forward to putchar with a cast, for example return putchar((unsigned char) ch); This keeps the behavior consistent with the way putchar handles the input value.

Portability and semantics: Since the function relies on a cast to unsigned char, the exact character produced depends on the platform’s character encoding and the value of ch modulo 256. The function is primarily a pedagogical example rather than a portable standard interface, and it does not prescribe newline handling or buffering beyond what putchar provides.

Usage examples: stdputcharint(65) prints the character 'A' and returns 65. stdputcharint(300) prints ',' (assuming ASCII/Latin-1 encoding) and returns 44, because 300 mod 256 equals 44.
