Statistiliselt

Statistiliselt is an Estonian adverb meaning “in a statistical manner” or “statistically.” It is formed from the adjective statistiline (statistical) with the adverbial suffix -lt. The word is used in written Estonian to indicate that a claim, result, or observation is based on statistical methods, data, or analysis rather than on anecdotal evidence.

In scientific and analytical writing, statistiliselt is used to qualify statements about significance, reliability, or trends. It often accompanies nouns and adjectives to signal that the underlying basis is quantitative. Common phrases include statistiliselt oluline (statistically significant), statistiliselt analüüsitud andmed (statistically analyzed data), and statistiliselt usaldusväärsed tulemused (statistically reliable results).

Examples of usage include: “Tulemused on statistiliselt olulised,” meaning that the differences observed are statistically significant; and “Statistiliselt analüüsitud andmed viitavad kasvule,” indicating that the data analyzed statistically point to growth. The term functions similarly to its English counterpart “statistically,” serving to attribute a claim to data-driven analysis rather than to interpretation alone.
