Stasjonsdata

Stasjonsdata, literally station data, is a term used in Norwegian and Swedish contexts to describe the data associated with a physical station and the measurements recorded there. It includes both metadata that describes the station itself and the data collected by its instruments.

Core components include station metadata (name or code, geographic coordinates, elevation, country, time zone) and identifiers (for example, a WMO ID for meteorological stations). Instrumentation details describe sensors and measurement types (temperature, humidity, wind, traffic counts, electrical measurements). Data streams capture measurement values with timestamps, sampling rates, and quality flags, while provenance records explain data sources and processing steps. Data quality management encompasses calibration history, sensor replacements, data gaps, and QC flags that indicate suspicious or missing values.

Applications of stasjonsdata span multiple sectors. In meteorology and climate research, it underpins weather analyses, forecasts and climate records. In energy, telecommunications and transportation, station data supports monitoring of substations, base stations, and traffic or environmental measurements. The information is used for analytics, planning and operational decision-making, and for creating long-term datasets.

Interoperability relies on metadata and data format standards. Station data may be represented in formats such as NetCDF or BUFR for scientific data, and in GIS-friendly schemas for location-based datasets.
