Staphyloxanthin

Staphyloxanthin is a carotenoid pigment produced by certain species of bacteria, most notably *Staphylococcus aureus*. This pigment is responsible for the characteristic golden-yellow color observed in colonies of these bacteria. Carotenoids, in general, are a class of lipid-soluble compounds found in plants and photosynthetic organisms, known for their antioxidant properties.
