Standardwirkungsgrade

Standardwirkungsgrade, also known as rated brake effectiveness, refers to the minimum brake force required to stop a vehicle from a specified speed within a predetermined distance. This parameter is used to estimate the braking performance of a vehicle. In Germany, Standardwirkungsgrade is a regulation that applies to the braking distance of new vehicles.

The testing method for Standardwirkungsgrade involves stopping a vehicle of a specified type, loaded with a predetermined number of passengers or a given amount of weight, over a flat, dry and level surface. The vehicle is initially traveling at a speed of 80 km/h and is stopped within a distance that is measured by a circuit of 50 meters. The force exerted on the brake pedal is measured to determine the Standardwirkungsgrade value, which is then expressed as a percentage.

In Germany, vehicles are classified into different categories based on the Standardwirkungsgrade value. These categories range from A to F, with A representing the highest braking performance. Vehicles with a Standardwirkungsgrade value within the range of 40-49% must display the classification E, while those with a value below 40% are classified as F.

The Standardwirkungsgrade value is an important safety feature for all new vehicles sold in Germany, as it provides a standard reference for braking performance. However, it is worth noting that the actual braking distance may vary depending on several factors such as road conditions, tire type, and driver experience.
