Srinatha

Srinatha was a prominent medieval Kannada poet and scholar who lived during the 12th century, specifically under the patronage of the Hoysala Empire. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest poets of the Veera Shaiva tradition, a movement that emphasized devotion to Lord Shiva. Born in the village of Sringeri, located in present-day Karnataka, India, Srinatha is believed to have been a disciple of the philosopher and mystic Basava, a key figure in the Lingayat movement.

Srinatha’s literary contributions are primarily in the form of *vachanas*, which are short, poetic verses expressing spiritual insights, devotion, and philosophical reflections.
