Språknämnden

Språknämnden was a Swedish government agency tasked with promoting and safeguarding the Swedish language. Established in 1944, it operated under the Ministry of Education and Research. The agency's primary mission was to provide guidance on language use, research language development, and work towards a clear and understandable Swedish.

The Språknämnden offered advice on grammar, spelling, and word usage through its publications, website, and advisory services. It also played a role in standardizing terminology, particularly in specialized fields. In 2022, the Språknämnden was dissolved, and its functions were largely integrated into the newly established Språkrådet (Swedish Language Council), which continues the work of promoting and analyzing the Swedish language within the framework of the Swedish Language Authority (Språkmyndigheten).
