Sprickspänningsfaktor is a term used in fracture mechanics to quantify the stress field at the tip of a crack. It is a crucial parameter for understanding and predicting the likelihood of crack propagation and material failure. The sprickspänningsfaktor is denoted by the symbol K.

This factor is directly related to the applied stress, the size and geometry of the crack, and the material properties. A higher sprickspänningsfaktor indicates a more severe stress concentration at the crack tip. When the sprickspänningsfaktor reaches a critical value, known as the fracture toughness of the material (often denoted as KIC for mode I cracks), the crack will begin to grow.
