Spektraltekniker

Spektraltekniker (spectral technician) is a laboratory technician who operates spectroscopic instruments, conducts measurements, and analyzes spectral data. They support research, development, quality control, and process monitoring in fields such as chemistry, physics, materials science, astronomy, and environmental analysis. The role centers on obtaining reliable spectra, calibrating instruments, and maintaining data integrity.

Typical duties include setting up spectrometers and accessories, preparing and handling samples, running measurement programs, calibrating wavelength and intensity scales, verifying instrument performance, troubleshooting equipment, and documenting experimental conditions and results. They process data with analysis software, perform basic interpretation of spectra, and prepare reports for researchers or engineers. Safety, calibration, and compliance with quality standards are essential.

Common equipment and techniques include UV-Vis and near-infrared spectrometers, infrared and Raman spectrometers, fluorescence spectrometers, and, in some contexts, mass spectrometry or X-ray spectroscopy. They may operate laser and detector systems and use software such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, or Python for data processing.

Education and training typically involve a vocational or technical degree in physics, chemistry, or a related field, with hands-on training in spectroscopy. Some positions require a bachelor’s degree or higher, and experience with instrument maintenance and data analysis is valued. Career paths often lead to senior technician roles, instrumentation specialists, or laboratory-support positions within academic, clinical, or industrial settings.
