Spånplader

Spånplader, often translated as particleboard or chipboard, is an engineered wood product manufactured from wood chips, sawdust, and other wood particles that are bonded together with a synthetic resin or binder. These particles are typically mixed with the binder and then pressed into dense sheets under heat and pressure. The resulting material is a flat, stable panel that can be used in a variety of construction and furniture-making applications.

The production process involves drying the wood particles to a specific moisture content before mixing them with the binder. This mixture is then spread onto a conveyor belt and fed into a press, where it is compressed to the desired thickness and density. The panels are then cooled and cut to size. Spånplader can be produced in various densities and thicknesses depending on the intended use.

Common applications for spånplader include furniture manufacturing, cabinetry, shelving, and as a core material for laminate flooring. It is also used in construction as underlayment for flooring, wall sheathing, and as a substrate for countertops. While it is a cost-effective alternative to solid wood, spånplader is generally less strong and less resistant to moisture. Its surface can be finished with veneers, laminates, or paint to improve its appearance and durability. Care should be taken to avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, as it can cause swelling and degradation of the material.
