Spänekanäle, often translated as chip channels or flutes, are essential features in cutting tools such as drills, milling cutters, and taps. Their primary purpose is to facilitate the evacuation of chips, also known as swarf, from the cutting area. As the tool engages with the workpiece, material is removed in the form of chips. Without adequate chip evacuation, these chips can accumulate, leading to increased cutting forces, tool wear, and poor surface finish.
