Souscatégorie

A sous-catégorie (plural: sous-catégories) is a subdivision of a broader category used to organize items, documents, or data. The term is French for "sub-category" and is widely used in taxonomy, information architecture, and content management to create more precise groupings within a hierarchical structure.

In a hierarchical taxonomy, a sous-catégorie is a child of a parent category and can itself have its own subcategories, forming multiple levels. The relationship is typically described as "belongs to" or "is a part of."

Applications: In e-commerce, sites present a top-level category and several sous-catégories to help users filter products (for example, Électronique > Téléviseurs). In libraries and archives, sous-catégories refine subjects or genres. In data management and knowledge graphs, they support filtering, search, and analytics.

Examples: A sales catalog might use Catégorie: Vêtements; Sous-catégorie: Accessoires; Sous-sous-catégorie: Ceintures. A library system might use Catégorie: Fiction; Sous-catégorie: Science-fiction; Sous-sous-catégorie: Hard science fiction.
