Sosiologiaan

Sosiologiaan is the illative form of the Finnish noun sosiologia, meaning sociology. In Finnish, the illative case marks direction toward or entry into something, so sosiologiaan is used to express “into sociology” or “toward sociology” in contexts such as course descriptions, academic trajectories, or statements about studying the field. It is a grammatical marker rather than a distinct subject.

Sosiologia (sociology) is a social science that examines how people organize themselves, form institutions, and interact within groups and societies. It investigates social relationships, structures, norms, values, and processes that shape collective life. Core concerns include social stratification, culture, deviance, institutions, and social change. Methodologically, sociology combines qualitative approaches (ethnography, interviews, content analysis) with quantitative methods (surveys, statistics) to identify patterns and explain social phenomena.

In Finland, sociology is taught at universities and appears in the social sciences disciplines.
