Sopranissimo is a rare vocal range that extends above the standard soprano range. It is the highest classification of female singing voice, comparable to the countertenor range in men. The term was coined in the late 20th century to describe voices that can sing notes higher than a standard soprano, which typically extends from around C4 to C6.

The sopranissimo range can vary significantly among individuals. Some sopranos can reach notes as high as C7 or even higher, while others may struggle with notes above A5. The highest verified note sung by a sopranissimo is a G7, performed by coloratura soprano Maria Callas in 1953.

Sopranos who possess this extended range often specialize in roles that require high notes, such as the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" or the title role in Puccini's "Turandot." They typically have a lighter vocal timbre and a more agile technique than lower-voiced sopranos.

Training for the sopranissimo range involves extensive vocal exercises, breath control, and proper warm-up routines. Singers must also develop a strong sense of pitch and intonation to accurately hit the high notes. Despite the challenges, many sopranos find great satisfaction in pushing the boundaries of their voice and delivering powerful, high notes in their performances.
