Sonin is a fictional character from the *Final Fantasy* series, created by Japanese game designer and director Hironobu Sakaguchi. Introduced in *Final Fantasy VI* (1994), Sonin is a key figure in the game’s narrative, serving as a mentor and ally to the protagonist, Terra Branford.

Originally a powerful sorcerer known as the "Black Mage," Sonin was once a member of the Imperial Army of Figaro, a regime that sought to harness the power of the ancient sorcerers to control the world. After being captured and experimented on by the Empire, he was transformed into a monstrous, half-human, half-demon hybrid. Despite his altered appearance, Sonin retained his intelligence and compassion, becoming a protector of the weak.

In *Final Fantasy VI*, Sonin aids Terra and the other protagonists in their struggle against the Empire and the sorcerer Kefka. His role as a guide and strategist is crucial, as he helps the party navigate the game’s complex plot and moral dilemmas.
