Soltorn

Soltorn is a town and municipality on the eastern coast of Aurelia, along the Solfjord Bay. The municipality covers about 42 square kilometers and has varied terrain from a rocky shoreline to a low inland plain. The population is approximately 7,900. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters, cool summers, and regular precipitation.

Soltorn's site was settled in the 12th century as a fishing hamlet. It grew into a market town in the early modern period, aided by a small shipyard that operated from the 17th through the 19th century. The town expanded in the 20th century with improved road connections and public services, attaining municipal status in 1968.

Today, Soltorn's economy blends fishing, aquaculture, light manufacturing, and retail. The harbor handles commercial and recreational vessels, and a seasonal tourism sector focuses on coastal scenery and cultural events. Public services include a primary school, a secondary school, a regional clinic, and a municipal library. The town is connected by regional roads and a local bus network.

Notable sites include the 18th-century Soltorn Lighthouse, the coastal fortress ruins of Havnvik, and a lighthouse museum. The annual Soltorn Summer Festival showcases local music, crafts, and seafood. The town council, elected for four-year terms, governs local affairs from the town hall.
