Sokerityyppejä

Sokerityyppejä refer to different kinds of sugars, which are carbohydrates characterized by their sweet taste. The most common and simple type is monosaccharides, like glucose and fructose. Glucose is a primary energy source for living organisms, while fructose is found abundantly in fruits. Another important monosaccharide is galactose, a component of lactose.

Disaccharides are formed when two monosaccharides bond together. Sucrose, commonly known as table sugar, is made of glucose and fructose. Lactose, the sugar found in milk, is composed of glucose and galactose. Maltose, or malt sugar, consists of two glucose units and is often produced during the breakdown of starch.

Polysaccharides are complex carbohydrates made up of many monosaccharide units linked together. Starch, a major storage form of glucose in plants, and glycogen, the storage form in animals, are examples. Cellulose, another polysaccharide, provides structural support in plants and is indigestible by humans. While all these are technically sugars, their properties and sweetness vary greatly.
