Soflá

Soflá is a town and municipality in the fictional region of Elaria, within the country of Valoria. It sits along the Sofla River, approximately 60 kilometers northeast of the regional capital. The name Soflá derives from ancient Solvaric elements meaning “shore” and “light,” reflecting its riverside position and a tradition of evening lamps.

Founded in the 12th century as a fishing settlement, Soflá grew after the construction of a canal in the 15th century that connected inland farms to markets. It endured periods of growth and conflict, with a notable 17th-century rebuild after a flood. The town’s archives preserve records of crafts and trade routes that shaped its development.

Geographically, Soflá lies in a mixed landscape of low hills and river floodplains. The climate is temperate with warm summers and regular rainfall, supporting agriculture and river commerce. The surrounding area includes small orchards, vineyards, and farmsteads that supply local markets.

The local economy centers on textiles, ceramics, and light manufacturing, complemented by a small hydropower facility on the Sofla River. The town hosts a weekly market at the Crystal Market and maintains a logistics corridor to the regional capital, supporting both employment and regional trade.

Culture and landmarks: Soflá hosts the annual Soflá Festival of Light and Craft, featuring traditional music, dance, and crafts. Notable sites include the Stone Gate, Riverside Park, and the Soflá Academy of Arts and Sciences, which conducts regional research and hosts cultural events.

Governance and people: Soflá is governed by a mayor and a twelve-member town council. The municipality has about 18,000 residents, with a mix of urban and rural households. Local languages include Valorean, with a Soflan dialect widely used in daily life.
