Snowmans

A snowman is a temporary sculpture of a person made from snow. Typically, snowmen are constructed by rolling snow into spheres, and then stacking these spheres to form the body and head. The smallest sphere usually forms the head, placed atop a larger sphere for the torso, which in turn rests on an even larger sphere for the base. Snowmen are most commonly built in regions that experience winter snowfall.

The creation of snowmen is often a recreational activity for children and families during winter months. Common decorations for a snowman include stones or coal for eyes and a mouth, a carrot for a nose, and twigs or branches for arms. Hats, scarves, and buttons are also frequently added to enhance the appearance. The materials used for decoration are readily available and are often repurposed household items or natural elements found in the environment.

While snowmen are a familiar sight in many winter landscapes, they are inherently transient. As temperatures rise, the snow melts, and the snowman deteriorates. Despite their impermanence, snowmen hold cultural significance as a symbol of winter and a representation of playful engagement with the season.
