Meteorologically, snöovädet occurs when cold air from continental interiors meets moist maritime air, producing an occluded front that drives large amounts of snowfall across Scandinavia. Typical wind speeds exceed 30 km/h, and snowfall rates can reach several centimeters per hour, leading to drifts that impede transportation and disrupt power grids.
