Sluitacties

Sluitacties, often translated as "closing actions" or "lockout procedures," refers to the series of steps taken to safely shut down or isolate a piece of machinery, equipment, or a system. The primary goal of sluitacties is to prevent unexpected energization or startup of the equipment during maintenance, repair, or servicing, thereby protecting workers from serious injury. These procedures are a critical component of workplace safety, particularly in industries with hazardous machinery.

The implementation of sluitacties typically involves a systematic process. This often begins with a thorough understanding of the equipment to be shut down and the potential energy sources involved, which can include electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, or gravitational energy. The process then usually dictates that all operating personnel are notified of the impending shutdown and that the equipment is brought to a safe state, such as stopping moving parts. Following this, all energy sources are isolated and rendered inoperable through devices like lock-out tags. These locks and tags are unique to each worker and ensure that the equipment cannot be re-energized until all personnel have completed their work and removed their locks.
