Slovacco

Slovacco is the Italian term used as both a noun and an adjective to denote something related to Slovakia or a person from Slovakia. The masculine singular form is slovacco, the feminine singular is slovacca, and the plurals are slovacchi (masculine) and slovacche (feminine). When referring to the language, one says lingua slovacca; when referring to nationality or origin, one says un slovacco or una slovacca.

Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Its capital and largest city is Bratislava. The population is about 5.4 to 5.5 million. The official language is Slovak, and the country is a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area; the euro is the currency. The Slovak language is part of the West Slavic branch and is closely related to Czech, with a notable degree of mutual intelligibility between the two languages.

Historically, Slovaks formed one of the constituent nations of Czechoslovakia from 1918 until the dissolution in 1993. Since the Velvet Divorce, Slovakia has been an independent state. The term slovacco is widely used in Italian-language contexts to describe people of Slovak nationality, the language, or anything pertaining to Slovakia, without implying a particular political stance.
