Skyrail

Skyrail is a cable car system located in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. It transports passengers between the coastal suburb of Smithfield and the mountain village of Kuranda, traversing the ancient rainforest of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The journey covers a distance of 7.5 kilometers and includes three stations: Smithfield, Red Peak, and Kuranda.

The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway was officially opened in 1995. It was designed to provide a unique and environmentally sensitive way to experience the rainforest, minimizing its impact on the delicate ecosystem. The gondolas are custom-designed to blend with the natural surroundings.

During the ascent and descent, passengers enjoy panoramic views of the rainforest canopy, waterfalls, and the Coral Sea. The Red Peak station offers access to rainforest boardwalks and interpretive centers, allowing visitors to learn about the local flora and fauna. The Kuranda station serves as a gateway to the village of Kuranda, known for its markets and artisan shops.
