Skilpdagar

Skilpdagar, also known as "skill days" in English, are a traditional Swedish custom that involves the exchange of gifts between friends, family, or colleagues. The term "skilpdagar" translates to "exchange days," reflecting the core activity of the celebration. The tradition is deeply rooted in Swedish culture and is often associated with the holiday of Christmas.

The custom typically begins on December 13th, known as "Första advent" or the First Day of Advent, and continues until December 24th, the day before Christmas Eve. Each day, participants exchange gifts with someone they have not previously given a gift to. This ensures that everyone receives a gift over the course of the 12 days.

The gifts exchanged during skilpdagar are often small and inexpensive, such as chocolates, sweets, or small trinkets. The focus is on the social aspect of the exchange rather than the material value of the gifts. The tradition fosters a sense of community and goodwill, making it a beloved part of Swedish holiday celebrations.
