Skalale is a fictional mineral name used in speculative geology and world-building to describe a dense, conductive crystalline substance. In most portrayals, skalale forms in high-pressure, low-temperature metamorphic contexts and is prized for its energy storage and conductivity. The term is commonly attributed to a fictional Skal language, with "skal" meaning scale or layer and the suffix "-ale" indicating a mineral substance.

Crystals of skalale are described as prism-shaped grains with a metallic luster, color ranging from steel-gray to iridescent blue, and they exhibit anisotropic conductivity, with higher electrical conduction along a primary crystallographic axis. Mohs hardness is cited as 6 to 7, and density is about 3.9 g/cm3. Thermal conductivity is moderate, and the material shows electrochemical properties that enable charge storage through defect structures in its lattice.

Formation and occurrence are typically placed in ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic belts, often in association with ultramafic rocks such as serpentine and peridotite. In many depictions, major deposits occur in fictional regions like the Taranthin Belt. Skalale is usually described as forming within shear zones where mineral grains recrystallize under intense stress and heat.

Processing and usage involve mining skalale ore, followed by refining steps such as annealing and ion implantation to optimize conductivity. The refined material can be manufactured into ingots, wafers, or composite layers for use in energy storage devices and high-temperature electronics. In some sci-fi settings, skalale also features in protective armor or energy-absorbing components due to its strength and lattice-based energy absorption properties.
