Sirukorteilla is a Finnish term referring to chip cards, which are a type of payment or identification card that contains an embedded microchip. These chips store data more securely than traditional magnetic stripe cards. The technology is widely used in credit cards, debit cards, and identity cards across Finland and many other countries.

The primary advantage of sirukorteilla is enhanced security. The microchip can encrypt transaction data, making it significantly harder for counterfeiters to create fraudulent copies. This is a key component of EMV (Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) chip technology, which has become the global standard for card payments. When a sirukortti is used, the chip communicates with the payment terminal, generating a unique transaction code for each purchase. This process is often referred to as "dipping" the card, as it is inserted into a reader.

Beyond financial transactions, sirukortti technology is also employed in various identification and access control systems. For instance, employee badges or public transport passes may utilize chip cards to store personal information or track usage.
