Sinussõlmes

Sinussõlmes is a traditional Estonian folk architecture type characterized by its unique, semicircular design. The name "sinussõlmes" translates to "semicircle" in Estonian. This architectural style is primarily found in the southwestern and western regions of Estonia, particularly in the pagasts of Priekule and Priekule Kurzeme municipality.

The sinussõlmes structure is typically a one-story house with a symmetrical, semicircular shape. The building is usually covered with thatched roofing and features a simple, rectangular entrance. The interior is often decorated with traditional Estonian folk art, including wall paintings and ornaments.

The sinussõlmes style is believed to have originated in the 19th century as a response to the requirements of rural farmsteads. The semicircular design provided a unique solution to the need for a versatile space that could serve multiple purposes, such as a dwelling, barn, and storage facility.
