Singuläritäten, a German term roughly translating to "singularities," refers to points or regions within a mathematical or physical context where a certain quantity or property becomes undefined or behaves in an extreme manner. In mathematics, singularities are often found in functions, such as division by zero leading to an infinite value, or in complex analysis where a function may have poles or essential singularities. These points are crucial for understanding the behavior and limitations of mathematical models.

In physics, singularities are most notably discussed in the context of general relativity and cosmology. The most famous example is the Big Bang singularity, a theoretical point of infinite density and temperature at the beginning of the universe. Another significant singularity is the black hole singularity, hypothesized to exist at the center of a black hole, where spacetime curvature becomes infinite and the known laws of physics break down.
