Singleflush

Singleflush refers to a toilet flush system that uses a single fixed volume of water per flush, regardless of whether the waste is liquid or solid. It contrasts with dual-flush systems, which offer two discharge options to optimize water use.

Most singleflush toilets operate with a gravity-fed tank and a single flush valve or canister. Activating the handle or actuator releases a calibrated amount of water from the tank into the bowl, designed to clear the contents with one motion. The approach emphasizes simplicity and reliability, often featuring fewer moving parts than some dual-flush mechanisms.

In terms of water use, singleflush models vary. Traditional, older single-flush toilets can consume more water per flush, while many modern low-volume versions aim to meet regional efficiency standards. Modern low-volume single-flush designs commonly target around 1.28 to 1.6 gallons per flush (approximately 4.8 to 6.0 liters) to balance performance with water conservation in jurisdictions that require high-efficiency fixtures.

Singleflush has become less common in markets that prioritize dual-flush or high-efficiency technologies, but it remains widespread in older installations, budget builds, and certain institutional settings. Maintenance typically involves standard toilet components such as the flapper, fill valve, and flush valve, which are widely available and serviceable.
