Simpukasta

Simpukasta is a fictional coastal city-state in the Simpuka Archipelago, a chain of tropical islands in the northern seas of the imagined continent of Eldoria. In stories and role-playing settings, Simpukasta serves as a maritime hub known for its ornate shellcraft and pragmatic governance. The name is usually interpreted as combining a word for shell with a suffix denoting place.

The city sits in a natural crescent bay, sheltered by coral reefs. It experiences a warm, humid climate with a distinct dry season. The harbor handles small to medium vessels and is lined with markets and workshops.

Simpukasta is said to have grown from a cluster of fishing villages into a city-state during a period of treaty-based commerce. It maintains a semi-autonomous government with a mayor–council system and a guild senate representing craft and merchant interests. It is a member of a loose maritime federation but retains local law and tax collection.

The economy centers on shellcraft, boatbuilding, and fisheries, supplemented by tourism and small-scale medicine trade. Cultural life emphasizes craftsmanship, sea lore, and festivals such as the Shell Harvest Festival and the Night Market. The local language, Simpukese, is spoken alongside a regional lingua franca.
