Silmäkudoksiin
Silmäkudoksiin refers to the tissues of the eye in Finnish. The eye is a complex organ responsible for vision, composed of several specialized tissues working in concert. The outermost layer is the cornea, a transparent protective shield that also refracts light. Beneath the cornea is the sclera, the white, fibrous outer coat that provides structural support. The middle layer, the uvea, includes the iris, the colored part of the eye that controls the pupil's size, the ciliary body, which produces aqueous humor and changes the shape of the lens for focusing, and the choroid, a vascular layer that nourishes the retina. The innermost layer is the retina, which contains photoreceptor cells (rods and cones) that convert light into electrical signals. These signals are then processed and transmitted to the brain via the optic nerve. Other important tissues include the lens, which focuses light onto the retina, and the vitreous humor, the gel-like substance filling the eyeball. Each of these tissues plays a crucial role in the intricate process of sight.
