Silmäkammio

Silmäkammio refers to the anterior chamber of the eye. This is the space between the iris and the innermost surface of the cornea. The anterior chamber is filled with a fluid called aqueous humor, which is produced by the ciliary body. This fluid nourishes the cornea and the lens and also maintains the intraocular pressure of the eye. The pressure within the anterior chamber is crucial for the proper function of the eye.

Disorders affecting the anterior chamber can have significant consequences for vision. For example, glaucoma is a condition where the pressure in the anterior chamber becomes too high, damaging the optic nerve. Inflammation within the anterior chamber, known as iritis or anterior uveitis, can cause pain, redness, and blurred vision. The fluid in the anterior chamber is constantly being produced and drained. If this balance is disrupted, it can lead to various pathological conditions. Understanding the anatomy and physiology of the anterior chamber is fundamental to ophthalmology and the diagnosis and treatment of many eye diseases.
