These dusts are generated during processes that involve the cutting, grinding, drilling, or crushing of silica-containing materials such as rock, concrete, brick, and sand.

Exposure to fine respirable crystalline silica dust can pose significant health risks. When inhaled, these particles can penetrate deep into the lungs. Prolonged or repeated exposure can lead to serious lung diseases, including silicosis, an irreversible and progressive lung disease that impairs breathing.
