Silikonvergüsse, also known as silicone potting or encapsulation, are a process used to protect electronic components and assemblies. This involves filling the voids around sensitive parts with a liquid silicone material that cures into a solid, protective mass. The primary purpose of silicone potting is to provide environmental protection, safeguarding against moisture, dust, chemicals, and vibration. It also offers electrical insulation, preventing short circuits and improving the overall reliability and lifespan of the encapsulated device.

The silicone used for potting typically comes in a two-part liquid system that is mixed before application. Once mixed, it is dispensed into a mold or directly around the components. The material then cures, usually at room temperature or with gentle heating, to form a flexible, durable elastomer. Different types of silicone potting compounds exist, offering varying degrees of hardness, thermal conductivity, and dielectric strength, allowing for customization based on specific application requirements. Common uses include protecting automotive electronics, industrial controls, LEDs, and medical devices. The non-corrosive nature of silicone makes it particularly suitable for delicate electronic parts.
