Silanoliryhmän refers to a functional group containing silicon bonded to a hydroxyl group (Si-OH). These groups are characteristic of silanols, which are silicon-containing compounds analogous to alcohols. Silanols can exist as monomers or polymers. The silicon atom in a silanol group is typically bonded to at least one other atom, often carbon, and the hydroxyl group's oxygen is bonded to the silicon.

Silanol groups are important in various fields. In materials science, they play a crucial role in the formation of silicones, a class of polymers known for their versatility. The condensation of silanol groups, releasing water, is a key step in the cross-linking and curing processes that give silicones their unique properties.
