Siirtymämuunnos

Siirtymämuunnos, known in English as the change of variables or substitution method, is a technique used in mathematics, particularly in calculus and differential equations, to simplify complex problems by transforming them into simpler, more manageable forms. The core idea is to replace the original variables with new ones in such a way that the resulting expression or equation becomes easier to solve.

In integration, the change of variables often involves substituting a part of the integrand with a new variable, say u. This substitution requires finding the differential of the new variable, du, in terms of the original differential, dx. For example, if we have an integral like $\int f(g(x))g'(x) dx$, we can let $u = g(x)$, which implies $du = g'(x) dx$. The integral then transforms into $\int f(u) du$, which might be a standard integral that can be solved directly. After solving for u, the result is then substituted back in terms of the original variable x.

Similarly, in differential equations, a change of variables can transform a complex equation into a simpler type, such as a separable or linear equation. This technique is also widely applied in areas like linear algebra and multivariable calculus, where coordinate transformations (e.g., from Cartesian to polar coordinates) can significantly simplify integration or the analysis of geometric shapes.
