Siirtolaulu

Siirtolaulu, literally meaning “emigrant song,” is a term used in Finnish ethnomusicology to denote a category of traditional songs linked to migration, diaspora, and the experience of leaving or living away from home. The repertoire encompasses material tied to both international emigration, especially Finns who settled in North America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and internal migration within Finland.
