Signaleringsvägar, often translated as signaling pathways, are sequences of molecular events that occur within a cell in response to a stimulus. These pathways allow cells to perceive and respond to their environment, coordinating complex cellular functions. A typical signaling pathway begins with a signal molecule, such as a hormone or neurotransmitter, binding to a specific receptor on the cell surface. This binding event triggers a cascade of intracellular events, often involving the activation or deactivation of various proteins, particularly enzymes. These molecular switches then relay the signal from the receptor to the cell's interior, ultimately reaching a target molecule that mediates the cellular response.
