SiPMbased

SiPMbased refers to systems or devices that utilize Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) as their primary photosensing component. SiPMs are solid-state devices that act as single-photon detectors. They consist of an array of small avalanche photodiodes (APDs) operating in Geiger mode, meaning each cell is sensitive enough to detect a single photon. When a photon strikes a cell, it triggers an avalanche breakdown, generating a measurable electrical pulse.

The key advantage of SiPMs is their high internal gain, comparable to traditional photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), but with the added benefits of being compact, robust, insensitive to magnetic fields, and operating at lower voltages. These characteristics make SiPMbased systems particularly attractive for applications where space, power consumption, or environmental robustness are critical.

SiPMbased technologies are found in a diverse range of fields. In high-energy physics, they are used in calorimeters and particle detectors for precise event reconstruction. Medical imaging, such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanners, benefits from SiPMs due to their high sensitivity and spatial resolution. Other applications include environmental monitoring, industrial quality control, and even in some advanced camera systems for low-light imaging. The development and integration of SiPMbased components continue to drive innovation in photon detection technologies.
