SiPMbased refers to systems or devices that utilize Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) as their primary photosensing component. SiPMs are solid-state devices that act as single-photon detectors. They consist of an array of small avalanche photodiodes (APDs) operating in Geiger mode, meaning each cell is sensitive enough to detect a single photon. When a photon strikes a cell, it triggers an avalanche breakdown, generating a measurable electrical pulse.
